He was a man full of wisdom and his wisdom surpasses the wisdom of all the kings in his time.
We were all taught that he is the wisest man who ever lived and with his wisdom came great wealth.
Solomon was a man who couldn't find satisfaction in everything he had and this is quite strange.
Solomon explored many things. He explored knowledge, pleasure, power and prestige yet he felt empty.
How can a man with 300 wives and 700 concubines feel empty?
Something was definitely wrong somewhere and we will find that out today.
Solomon reached the pinnacle of worldly success, yet he never found peace and happiness. “Meaningless, meaningless. Everything is meaningless” he said. What is meaningless? Life without God is meaningless.
The search for happiness is what every youth of this dispensation can realate to.
Happiness means different things to different people.
Many, in our modern society, attempt to “find” happiness through material possessions.
What does it take to make you happy? Why is it so difficult to stay happy? Even those questions provoke the thought that lasting happiness is nearly impossible here on Earth. So many people are discouraged in their quest for happiness amidst this tragic life. Their pursuit only leaves them hopeless and in despair.
Daily our hearts crave acceptance, approval and acknowledgement. We want to know that we are seen, what we do makes a difference and that we are loved unconditionally. We want people to look at us and praise us for being an awesome friend, sister, employee and colleagues.
It is because of this that Blaise Pascal said this some centuries ago
" There is a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of every man
which cannot be filled by any created thing, but only by God, the Creator, made known through Jesus.”
God has put “eternity” inside every human heart. That means there is something inside each of us that yearns to understand what life is all about.
God made us to know Him. He designed us so that we would want to know him, and then he guaranteed we wouldn’t be happy unless he fills the void within.
Once we allow God to fill the “God-shaped vacuum” in our heart we truly understand and experience Him doing immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine in our lives.
The best way for God to fill the “God-shaped vacuum” in our heart is to develop a personal relationship with Him. And the best way to do that is to spend time in prayer and studying His Word.
Do you regularly spend time in prayer and in God’s Word? I hope so, but if not, don’t worry it’s not rocket science. It can be as simple as these 5 steps:
Gathering your Bible, journal and pen.
Saying a short prayer asking God to speak to you through His Word.
Reading a short passage and writing it out in your journal.
Asking God this question and writing the answer in your journal. What are you revealing to me about yourself in this passage?
Writing a short prayer in response to what God reveals to you through your time in His Word.
See how easy that is?!
By just spending a few minutes each day in God’s Word you will begin to experience immeasurably more than all you can ask or imagine in your relationship with your Lord and Savior.
